Having made a name for herself in comedy shows such as Knowing Me, Knowing You With Alan Partridge, The Comic Strip and The Day Today, before joining friends in their own show, Smack The Pony.
She can currently be seen in ITV2’s award-winning Plebs, and BBC 2’s Two Doors Down on Friday at 10pm.
Bite your tongue or have it out with someone?
In a perfect world I’d stay and argue but, in reality, when I’m annoyed I just say: “Guys, I’m going to go now,” then walk out.
Go back to stand-up, or is it behind you for good?
I don’t know. I feel a duty to women as there are so few female stand-ups, but don’t expect jokes from me. My stuff is more character-led.
A school in Fife. Character building or cruel?
Character building. My first stage role was empowering after hiding in school toilets all year waiting for another pupil to come and batter my head in.
So you don’t stay in touch with school friends?
No. I wonder what that girl is doing now? But I do stay in touch with Mr McKay, the teacher who made me join the drama group. Lovely man. We’re meeting up again soon.
Prefer Writing or performing?
Performing. I’m really just a bit of a clown who likes to mess about.
Opera or pop?
Opera. Funnily enough a film producer heard me singing on the Great British Bake Off when I was waiting for my cakes to come out of the oven, and he’s offered me a role as an opera singer in his next film. I’m taking lessons.
Stage or TV?
Stage. It has audience interaction, although it’s usually two women at the front cackling while the rest sit texting. But TV work is faster. It means I can get home to my kids.
Was Two Doors Down done quickly then?
No. That was the longest I’ve ever been away from home. It was nine weeks, which is too long.
Why do it then?
Because I loved the writing and the cast, and my 11- year-old daughter could come to visit me in Glasgow. We hung round on the trapeze at the Western Baths.
You have 24 hours left to live. How do you spend the time?
I’d take my kids to see the rainforests which might not be there when they’re grown up. I’ve never done substances but maybe I’d try a tribal drug or two and get spacey, just to see what it’s like.
