Ross King: Catching up with Oscar winners

And this year was no exception.

Where else can you see new love birds – such as spring chickens Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall – along with old lovebirds, like Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel?

I had a fantastic night on the red carpet talking to all sorts of celebs.

That included to the likes of the gorgeous Isla Fisher and her husband Sacha Baron Cohen.

Believe it or not I first interviewed Isla when she was 16 and had just started on Home And Away.

Since then she’s gone on to star in Wedding Crashers and Confessions Of A Shopaholic.

Meanwhile her hubby is one of Hollywood’s top-rated comedians – and this was the first time I interviewed him when he wasn’t playing Ali G, Borat or another one of his weird characters!

Sacha told me the Academy had no idea he would be appearing onstage as Ali G.

He hid in the disabled loo to change into his bling gear while his wife tried to convince the organisers he had tummy trouble!

I think all my winning predictions were right on the night, except for Mark Rylance.

The previous winner and hot favourite, Sylvester Stallone, was expected to emerge victorious with his nomination for Creed, the Rocky sequel.

But the heavyweight champ was knocked out against all the odds by the unknown underdog from England.

What a fantastic achievement for Mark.

I had a quick chat with him on the red carpet – and also with Sam Smith, who won for his song Writing’s On The Wall.

Sam said he was glad that I had the loudest voice on the red carpet – and that he could hear me above all the other reporters calling for him!

I grabbed a quick word with Gavin & Stacey legend – and now US chat show king – James Corden.

We were talking about how we were both punching above our weight with our wives.

“And in my case, that’s quite a lot of weight,” quipped James.

Another great line came from the man of the evening – Leonardo DiCaprio.

He finally won the Best Actor gong after six nominations.

Leo was chatting to the chap who was engraving his Oscar at The Governor’s Ball.

“Do you do this every year?” Leo asked him. “It’s just I wouldn’t know!”
