I’m not the only one baffled at the decision to disqualify the Still Game stage show from Scottish theatre awards.
The Critics Awards for Theatre In Scotland have apparently decreed that the show isn’t Scottish enough.
This is beyond bonkers.
Jack and Victor couldn’t be more Scottish if they dressed up as bottles of whisky, bedecked themselves in tartan and clenched a thistle in their bums singing Scots Wha Hae.
A spokesperson for the awards said the reason is because it was staged by a production company based in London.
It was thought up, written and performed by Scottish people, staged in Glasgow and attracted incredible numbers of Scots.
It was a big fat SCOTTISH success.
I really hope those who run the awards aren’t being snooty because so many “non theatre goers” made the effort to get up from in front of their TV screens.
That would be incredibly patronising.
