Eddi Reader and pals are to appear at an event marking Scotland’s hosting of the Ryder Cup.
The eyes of the sporting world will again be on Scotland later this month.
After the feel-good fervour of the Commonwealth Games, it’s golfing fever that’s going to strike.
And ahead of the Ryder Cup hitting Gleneagles, some of the top names in music, golf and the arts will unite at the SSE Hydro.
The 2014 Ryder Cup Gala, on September 24, has a stellar line-up including Texas, Amy Macdonald, Midge Ure and Nile Rodgers.
Players from both teams will take to the stage together and Scotland’s leading arts agencies Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, National Theatre of Scotland and the RSNO will be united for the first time.
Being part of the evening already has Eddi Reader licking her lips in anticipation.
“I’m really excited about everyone getting together and it’s great to see music, theatre and the arts all celebrated,” Eddi told The Sunday Post.
“I’m not really a sporty type but the Olympics opening ceremony and then the Commonwealth one drew me in.
“The stories that have come out of it, of people struggling to get to this peak, are wonderful. It’s great watching it, almost like an old school Hollywood movie.”
It’ll be Eddi’s first time appearing at the Hydro and she says it’s a symbol of the changing face of Glasgow over the past few years.
“I didn’t notice it when I was growing up but when I came back 12 years ago Glasgow amazed me. The landscape just blows my mind. The Hydro looks like an alien ship has landed.”
Eddi has a UK tour starting in October and an EP, Back The Dogs, out to support it.
It’s a track from her Vagabond album with the addition of a couple of songs her mum and aunt used to sing at parties. Much of the album was recorded at home after husband John was taken ill.
“This type of complaint Crohn’s Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, IBD is on the rise,” adds Eddi.
“Thank God for the NHS is all I can say. The doctors and nurses explained it really clearly and sorted it out. He has one more operation to go and he’ll be on the mend.
