It’s exotic Kenya for the king of holidaysI’M not good at sitting on a beach for two weeks. I like an active holiday with lots to do and you can guess that it normally involves wildlife. My favourite is usually the last one and we recently had a brilliant holiday in Kenya. We spent a couple of days in Lake Nakuru before the real highlight, which was going to the Maasai Mara. I’ve been many times before but it’s one of the best possible places to see a lot of wildlife. Every day we saw lions, leopards and cheetahs. We went on a hot air balloon, which was brilliant. I did that years ago for filming but what I’m enjoying now is taking my son on those adventures. Nick comes along too but he’s well-travelled so it’s showing Ollie things I’ve done that I really enjoy. You have to get up really early for the balloon trip but it’s so worth it. Just getting in a hot air balloon is exciting, but then you see these stunning views over the Mara before landing in the grasslands where they serve you a full English breakfast! I actually went to Kenya because it was where I had one of my most memorable holidays ever as a kid. I was about 12 and it was back in the 1970s when it was still a really exotic thing to do. It embedded a love of Africa and wildlife in me. We live in South Africa now and there are so many great places. In fact we’ve just booked a 10-day break for the school holidays in October. My mum and her husband are coming over and we’re going on a little road trip. We’re going to Oudtshoorn which has one of the world’s longest cave systems. But it also has a meerkat safari where they take you out to see these lovely little creatures. Again, I’ve done that for filming, but it’s new for my son and mum.
