The tragic death of Preston Flores has led to a raft of changes in council safety procedures, The Sunday Post can reveal.
Little Preston, from Aberdeen, died just days before his eighth birthday after becoming engulfed in flames on the city’s Bedford Avenue in April last year.
The incident is alleged to have involved petrol left in the back of a council van where witnesses claimed they had seen Preston and other youngsters playing.
Aberdeen City Council has now confirmed that, in the wake of the tragedy, all of its fuel-carrying vehicles have had lockable fuel boxes installed and fire extinguishers fitted.
The move is among a series of measures revealed by the council in a letter to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service at the request of Preston’s grief-stricken parents, Keith Will, 33, and Luisza Flores, 34.
Keith said: “It has taken Preston’s death for the council to get their act together and make these changes. The measures should have been standard from the beginning.”
