Katherine is a cool customer even in California.
There’s nothing worse than a sweaty cuddle. Unfortunately in Malibu, one of America’s premiere sun traps, they’re pretty unavoidable even at this time of year.
I got a big sweaty hug recently but it was OK as it was the gorgeous Katherine Jenkins who’d offered to embrace me.
Katherine had just finished filming on the set of the video for her song Dreaming of the Days, which was filmed in Malibu.
She was worried about being all hot and sweaty, not perhaps realising a legion of men would have swam the Atlantic for an opportunity like that.
Katherine was promoting her new album Home Sweet Home, and the Welsh beauty looked almost as stunning as she did happy.
Her career is going fantastically well this is her 10th album in 10 years and she got married last month to dashing filmmaker Andrew Levitas in London.
“Can we have quiet please,” shouted Katherine to the crew just as we were about to start taping. Normally that’s the job of the production manager!
“If the singing goes wrong I could always get a job in production,” she giggled. “It’s such a lovely time. This album will take up a lot of the next few months.
“I just became an Auntie as well to little baby Rhys, so it’s a lovely time for me. I’m very happy. Andrew is a lovely man.”
“I don’t know where the ten years have gone,” she beamed. “A decade ago I was a school teacher. I’m feeling pretty lucky.
“In one way it feels like yesterday. Life is so fast. So many cool things have happened to me.
“I remember signing the deal and doing the first album. I felt so lucky to do one. So to do the tenth albumI just feel very blessed and happy right now.”
Technically, Katherine is an Operatic Aria Mezzo Soprano, which is either something to do with how she sings, or AC Milan’s back four last weekend.
But Katherine’s also a talented dancer. She starred on the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, which is called Dancing With The Stars. I wondered if she’s going to move to the USA.
“I haven’t danced like that for a while,” she said. “I would love to pick it back up. It was so much fun one of the highlights of my career.
“The USA is dear to me but the UK is my home and I’ll be there. There’s family to consider now!”
That’s good to hear. We don’t want Katherine leaving for the USA now she’s married. It’s not very well known but as well as Wales, she’s also got Caledonian roots.
“My mum’s mum was born in Glasgow, then moved to Manchester before meeting my grandfather. So there’s a bit of me that’s Scottish.”
