Silk star Theo Barklem-Biggs says playing a youngster with a lot to learn has been just like real life.
Theo is the gauche law office clerk Jake, nephew of Neil Stuke’s tough chambers head Billy, in the BBC’s hit legal drama.
“Neil’s brilliant and we’ve got the same relationship off-screen as on,” Theo said.
“He’s taken me under his wing and given me some tough love, too.
“I’ve been with the show since the start and I’m so happy to have great names like Maxine Peake and Rupert Penry-Jones beside me in my first regular role. I’ve learned so much.
“Jake’s lovable and sweet-natured. Those qualities don’t usually get you very far in the cut-throat world of law clerking. But he’s not unintelligent.”
Location shooting for the drama is done around the real law firms of London’s Temple Bar. And 23-year-old Theo says that’s a real help.
“We visited chambers and I saw these clerks running around and got an idea of how Jake would be perceived.”
There are some massive developments to come this series but a new run hasn’t yet been confirmed.
However, Theo already has a promising film career ticking along nicely.
He was in The Inbetweeners Movie and Borrowed Time and has a role in a new big screen project called Secret Service.
“It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Firth and Michael Caine and I play the best friend of the lead,” adds Theo.
“It’s the biggest budget thing I’ve done but I actually found it quite relaxing instead of intimidating as you have a bit more time.”
