Simon Cowell is not worried by Britain’s Got Talent’s foreign flavour.
It took flak last year for having a Hungarian winner, but Simon Cowell’s unconcerned about a foreign invasion of Britain’s Got Talent.
“I love that people from other countries enter as it’s a compliment that they don’t want to do it in their own countries,” says Simon of Attraction’s amazing performances.
“They feel Britain’s Got Talent is the best world showcase.
“But obviously as I’m British I’d prefer a Brit to win it.”
Cowell became a dad when partner Lauren Silverman gave birth to their son Eric on Valentine’s Day.
The sudden arrival meant he had to leave the London auditions and fly to New York for the birth.
That saw presenters Ant and Dec take a place on the judging panel and David Walliams take on the mantle of head judge.
“He couldn’t get into that seat quick enough,” insists Simon.
“He was praying for Lauren to give birth early. I’m sure he called her up saying: ‘Push, push!’
“As soon as I was out, he was in that chair!”
The banter between the pair is one of the highlights of the returning talent show and Walliams’ mickey-taking does hit home.
“He’s really got annoying this year,” adds Simon.
“He was kind of amusing before but God forbid I make the audience laugh more than he does. He gets quite dark.
“It’s like having a child who’s suddenly turned into a giant at the age of 11.
“Mentally, he’s just an 11-year-old in a huge body. He has got a kind side but he can be very, very annoying to work with.”
