Security services last night revealed British “White Widow” suspect Samantha Lewthwaite was not involved in the Kenyan Westgate mall atrocity.
The 29-year-old soldier’s daughter from Aylesbury was married to a terrorist who killed 26 people when he blew up a Tube train in 2005.
But she fled to South Africa in 2008 and was accused of playing a central role in the Nairobi bloodbath a fortnight ago in which 72 people were slaughtered.
However, Kenyan police chief David Kimaiyo said the speculation was inaccurate.
“On Samantha we have also established that she was not part of the attackers in the building there was no woman,” he added.
He made the sensational announcement only hours after four Islamic extremist gunmen involved in the bloodbath were named.
The men, named as Abu Baara al-Sudani, Omar Nabhan, Khattab al Kene and Umayr, all died during the savage attack that began on September 21.
New video has also emerged showing the four named gunmen searching rooms.
It is understood that the CCTV pictures captured the gunmen mid-way through the assault, as many of the victims remained trapped in the mall.
Kenya’s government initially said 10 to 15 attackers were involved in the assault but police now believe between four to six people took part.
Al Qaeda-linked Somali-based militant group al Shabaab said it carried out the gun and grenade assault in retaliation for Kenya’s military operations inside Somalia.
Kenyan military spokesman Major Emmanuel Chirchir said Al Sudani, from Sudan, was the leader of the group.
Nabhan, a Kenyan of Arab origin, was born in Mombasa.
The third attacker, Al Kene, believed to be Somali from the capital Mogadishu, is linked to al Shabaab Islamist militants.
The nationality and history of the fourth attacker, Umayr, were “not yet identified”.
Al Shabaab has promised more attacks unless troops are withdrawn from Somalia.
British-born Lewthwaite was married to Germaine Lindsay, one of four men involved in the July 2005 London bombings.
The couple had two children together. Lewthwaite has since had two other children.
Their fathers are unknown, though she is believed to have had a relationship with London born bomb-maker Habib Saleh Ghani, killed earlier this month in a battle with a rival terror group.
