Aberdeen visit is perfect match for Motherwell to forget Accies hammering

Form suggests Motherwell will be leaping out of the frying pan and into the fire at Fir Park this afternoon.

Thrashed 5-0 by Hamilton on Thursday, Ian Baraclough’s men host Premiership leaders Aberdeen who have now won their last six on the spin.

As far as defender Craig Reid is concerned though, the test will be precisely what he and his team-mates need right now.

“When you lose a game the way we have done you want to make amends as soon as possible,” he said.

“This match allows us the opportunity to do exactly that. It will be a big occasion because it is on TV and because of the way Aberdeen are going right now.

“They are at the top of the League and are there on merit. They are a good side with good individual talents within the team.

“We can’t and won’t be under any illusions about how tough it is going to be. But we are the home team and, as such, we will have our fans behind us.

“We all appreciate that days like Thursday were hard for them. It was a big disappointment for us all.

“It is past now and hopefully it will turn out to have been a blip. If we can come out positively, with the fans cheering us on I know we can do better.”

Reid’s argument is lent weight by the two results which preceded the loss to Accies, wins against St Mirren and Partick Thistle.

“There has maybe been a bit of inconsistency but you have to expect that to an extent because of all the injuries,” he said.

“We have had to keep reshaping and changing formations. I know because against Accies I played in three different positions: right back, left back and centre half.

“When we start getting all the bodies back that shouldn’t be an issue any more.”
