Ally McCoist could ask for Lewis Macleod to be released from the Scotland squad to play for Rangers against Alloa on Saturday.
The Ibrox Board have decided to go ahead with the Championship game despite having players away on international duty.
Previously the club have cancelled fixtures in these circumstances.
With 20-year-old Macleod unlikely to play any part against the Republic of Ireland on Friday, McCoist could ask Gordon Strachan to release him for a few hours the following day.
The Rangers boss admitted: “I wouldn’t rule that out. From our point of view, it would make sense but I do appreciate that he is Gordon’s player for these five or six days.
“But that’s something we would possibly have a look at. I will certainly have a chat with Gordon.
“Whatever happens, it certainly wouldn’t faze Lewis. He is on the crest of a wave at the moment. He has had an extra strut since he was called up. It was really refreshing to see.”
Hearts have been allowed to use their Under-21 players against Falkirk on Saturday before they travel to Switzerland for a friendly.
With Macleod’s best hope of international action being a cameo against England a week on Tuesday, Strachan may decide some club football would do him no harm.
McCoist admits he’s excited by the prospect of Friday’s international clash with Ireland.
He went on: “It’s a monster of a game. I wouldn’t say I’m not interested in the England match, but there is only one game that really matters out of the two games.
“It’s a massive game for the Irish, but what a game for us!”
