I really enjoyed reading Alex Norton’s autobiography.
There’s Been A Life! (obviously a reference to the famous Taggert catchphrase, “There’s been a murder”) is funny, honest, entertaining and beautifully nostalgic.
We were both young kids from the Gorbals and I loved Alex’s descriptions of his childhood, which brought back so many memories for me, as well as all his anecdotes about life as an actor in Scotland, London and Hollywood.
Alex is one of our finest, equally at home in comedy as in drama.
The late, great Dudley Moore described him as “the funniest actor I have ever worked with”, and he has also shared the screen with Clint Eastwood, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.
Alex was brilliant as DCI Burke in Taggart and one of the most likeable and entertaining guests ever to sit on my sofa.
The book is out on November 27 and is the perfect Xmas present for anyone who loved Taggart and wants a real insider’s insight into the world of acting, as well as a fascinating life story of a truly top bloke.
