She will host traditional festivities at Sandringham for up to 30 of her relations over the Christmas holidays.
She is also due to visit nearby Anmer Hall to join William, Kate, great-grandson George and the Middleton clan to help house-warm the Cambridges new country home, which is just a five-minute drive away.
It is the first chance the Queen has had to view the renovations her grandson and his wife have made over the past 18 months for which they have personally paid around £1.5 million.
“The Queen is looking forward to seeing the house, especially the new nursery that Kate has designed,” a source said.
The Queen gifted the 10-bedroomed mansion (which includes a tennis court and swimming pool) to the couple back in 2012.
The Cambridges will visit their royal relations for a Christmas Eve supper, a Christmas Day church service and a turkey roast, before heading home to spend the rest of the holidays with Kate’s parents, sister Pippa and brother James.
All four of the Queen’s four children and their families arrive at various times during Christmas Eve. Princess Margaret’s two children, David and Sarah, are nearly always invited with their partners and children.
Stealing the limelight will be the growing brood of royal great-grandchildren Peter Phillip’s daughters Savannah and Isla, sister Zara’s daughter Mia who will be one on January 17, and of course 17-month-old Prince George.
