Jennifer Reoch is honoured to battle it out with veteran Jackie Bird

It’s been dubbed the “Battle of the Belles”.

In one corner is veteran Jackie Bird, the most familiar of faces who is once again hosting BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay Live.

In the other is newcomer Jennifer Reoch, who’ll co-host STV’s What A Year! alongside John MacKay.

They’ll face off in the run-up to the bells and Jennifer says just being highlighted alongside one of Scotland’s best-loved broadcasters is a thrill.

“To be mentioned in the same sentence as Jackie is amazing,” confides former Miss Scotland Jennifer.

“I’ve obviously watched Jackie for years, so being compared to her is surreal.

“Ours is a different style of show we have a round-up of the year while the BBC are putting on this big budget live show but we are on competing channels at the same time.

“It’s an honour and I’d certainly aspire to be as successful as someone like Jackie.”

The Reporting Scotland anchorwoman isn’t the only broadcaster Jennifer has her sights set on.

The Sunday Post’s Lorraine Kelly is another of the big name stars Jennifer, who presents STV Glasgow’s nightly magazine programme The Riverside Show, admires.

“We had Lorraine on the show and she’s someone I really look up to,” says the 25-year-old.

“She makes it look really easy and she’s just as warm off camera as on. She’s very genuine and I think that’s important.

“Holly Willoughby is someone else who comes across as very likeable and warm.

“You feel like you’re watching one of your pals telling you something. Being yourself is important and that’s what I’ve tried to do.

“If I look interested in something we’re covering, it’s because I really am. I absolutely love what I do.”

With a law degree from Glasgow University, Jennifer very much has the brains as well as the beauty.

She was one of Scotland’s most successful ever entrants at Miss World back in 2011 and admits it was an eye-opening experience.

“There are some negative preconceptions but I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done,” adds Jennifer.

“If you regard it as a great opportunity and don’t take it too seriously, it’s brilliant. Being on a world stage was quite cool.

“There were girls from 120 countries and while it’s not taken particularly seriously here in Britain, it’s a big deal elsewhere and I think something like a billion people watch it.”

What A Year! ITV, STV 11.15, Hogmanay.
