Joe Garner hit a brace as Preston put Scunthorpe to the sword to establish themselves as promotion contenders.
The 4-0 win in North Lincolnshire left Simon Grayson’s side with four points from their opening two games.
Garner was allowed all the time in the world to pull down a right wing cross from Chris Humphrey after 17 minutes and lash a close range shot past rookie keeper Jamie Severn.
An own goal from Miguel Lera doubled their advantage, with Humphrey getting on the scoresheet himself before Garner’s far-post header in the dying stages completed the rout.
Jamie Proctor’s header on the stroke of half-time secured Fleetwood Town their second successive win in League One with a 1-0 victory at Notts County.
In a game of few clear-cut chances, Proctor nodded the Cod Army in front just before the interval from Josh Morris’ cross.
Aaron Wilbraham made it three goals in two League One starts for Bristol City with a brace as his team came from behind to beat Colchester United 2-1 at Ashton Gate to claim top spot.
The visitors took a ninth minute lead when Sean Clohessy got the better of Greg Cunningham on the right and squared the ball for George Moncur to net with a low right-footed shot from 12 yards.
City hit back less than a minute after the break when Cunningham’s low cross from the left was cleverly converted by Wilbraham with a deft right-footed finish.
And the striker was on target again after 68 minutes when he rose at the near post to nod home.
