Sean Dillon is more used to grappling with opponents than grabbing headlines.
And the Dundee United captain admits he needs to get back to doing what he does best if the Tangerines want to sustain a genuine title challenge.
Dillon was splashed across the nation’s newspapers after his late strike only his fifth in eight years at United secured victory over Hamilton last week.
Looking back, the modest Irishman admits he enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame.
But he insists that his contribution to United’s Premiership-topping 42-goal haul will be worthless if he can’t also help the free-scoring Tangerines shut the back door.
He said: “We’re top scorers in the League, which is great, and it’s not like we’re relying on one guy in particular.
“The goals are pretty well spread out and that’s testament to the way the gaffer has us playing.
“If you’ve got somebody on 20 goals, there are plusses there, but if he gets injured or suspended, you can struggle.
“We’ve got them spread around, so we’re not as fearful of losing anyone. Everyone is chipping in.
“That said, we don’t have the best goal difference, and from a personal point of view, as a defender, that’s not where I want to be.
“We know it’s something we have to work on and we are doing. You can score all the goals in the world, but if you’re letting too many in, you’re in trouble.
“Don’t get me wrong, the situation isn’t getting me down. Far from it. But it’s definitely something you want to put right.”
