Joyous celebrations have broken out around the world to welcome the birth of the new princess.
The hotly anticipated announcement Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge had had a daughter spread around the world in an instant yesterday.
Within seconds social media was buzzing with the celebratory messages from all corners of the globe.
Soon well-wishers were converging on Buckingham Palace in their thousands to take a look at the official announcement of the Princess of Cambridge’s birth.
Excited revellers flying Union Jacks backed up along the palace gates, waiting patiently for their chance to stand before the easel, which remains in place for 24 hours.
Families also gathered at the gates of Kensington Palace, the official residence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to hand over flowers to congratulate the couple.
Holly, 12, and Katy, nine, from Balham in south London, handed in a bunch of pink, purple, orange and yellow gerberas to a police officer manning the palace gates.
Their mother Natalie Trumper said: “We have been to the hospital but couldn’t get very close and we have been very excited about the imminent arrival of the new baby.
“We have been hoping she would have a girl, and all our hopes came true this morning when the news was announced.
Katy added: “I’m excited to see the new baby.”
At Cafe Diana across the road from Kensington Palace, the manager Abdul Daoud let off pink and union jack balloons, as well as producing a life-size cut out of the Prince and Duchess of Cambridge.
The iconic BT Tower in central London was also quick to celebrate the royal arrival, beaming the message “It’s a Girl”.
Landmarks across the UK turned pink last night including, London’s Tower Bridge, the London Eye and Trafalgar Square’s fountains. The
honour mirrors the celebrations for Prince George’s birth in July 2013, when buildings around the country turned blue.
Sailors on the HMS Lancaster, known as the “Queen’s Frigate” offered their congratulations to older brother Prince George by lining up on the flight deck to spell out “Sister”.
Meanwhile friends and villagers converged on the Old Boot Inn, in Stanford Dingley, Berkshire, close to the Middleton family home in Bucklebury.
Landlord John Haley, who has run the pub for 19 years and knows the Duchess well, told The Sunday Post the champagne started popping as soon as the news broke.
He said: “We have had a lot in. We have been live on ITV and there has been a really good turn out. The champagne is popping and the wine is flowing. We are having a great time.
“A lot of them have been here since midday so I’m not sure how long they’ll stay until!”
Mr Haley said the quiet corner of rural Berkshire is once again revelling in the international spotlight with journalists and TV crews from as far afield as America turning up in the pub.
And Mr Haley, who has got to know the Middleton family during nearly two decades running the pub, believes the new Princess of Cambridge will be brought up by fantastic parents.
He added: “We are really happy she’s had a baby girl and the main thing is everybody is well.
“She has got a lovely mum and dad and a great future ahead of her.”
