The Special One focuses his ire on the ball boys!
Don’t blame it on the referee. Don’t blame it on the players blame it on the ball boys.
That was the bizarre reaction from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho yesterday after his side lost their unbeaten Premier League record with a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park.
Two goals from Papiss Cisse condemned the leaders to their first loss in their 15th game, and shot down any talk of going through the entire season unbeaten.
Mourinho then took the rather comic angle of blaming time-wasting by
Newcastle United’s ball boys late on for the defeat.
“You need one ball,” he said. “Sometimes we had no balls, and other times we had two balls.
“The referee can’t punish the ball boy who disappeared with the ball. He couldn’t punish the people in the crowd who kept the ball.
“We were unlucky. The best team lost, the team that tried to win, lost.”
