Land Rover is celebrating 30 years of one of its most iconic nameplates with a new special edition – the Discovery Anniversary.
Exclusive to the UK market, the Anniversary adds extra equipment to the standard Discovery SE plus some exterior goodies to mark it out.
It’s available in a choice of Santorini Black, Corris Grey, Loire Blue or Indus Silver paint, all of which are paired to massive 22-inch ‘Sparkle Silver’ alloy wheels.
It’s based on the mid-spec Discovery SE trim, which usually costs from £57,005. The Anniversary edition ups this to £59,995 but adds a bundle of extras that would usually cost £6,820. They consist of the aforementioned alloy wheels and paintwork, a fixed panoramic glass roof, privacy glass in the rear windows and an upgraded Meridian 380-watt sound system.
The Anniversary is paired to Land Rover’s 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. A power output of 302bhp means it will do 0-60mph in around 7.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 130mph.
The Discovery has been around since 1989, when Land Rover realised the potential in producing a real family-oriented off-roader which mated some of the luxury of its Range Rover line with a superbly practical body. The current model is the fifth generation of Discovery since launch.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover UK, said: “The Discovery family represents the pinnacle of versatility, and we are proud to celebrate that lineage. Discovery has evolved in its 30-year history to consistently bring technology, capability and relevance to the ever-changing motoring community.
“We have added extra value for our customers with the 30th Anniversary Edition, making what is regarded as the ‘Best Large SUV’ on sale today, even better”.
