Rangers v Celtic: 10 memorable images from Old Firm derbies

1985: Tempers flare in a league match at Ibrox. Breach of the peace charges were brought against Celtic’s Frank McAvennie and Rangers’ Chris Woods, Terry Butcher and Graham Roberts in the aftermath of the game. McAvennie was found not guilty, Roberts not proven. Woods and Butcher were both found guilty and fined.

1996: Rangers’ Paul Gascoigne blows a kiss to Jackie McNamara after a foul during a league match.

1998: Henrik Larsson scored a double in a 5-1 victory for the Hoops.

2002: In a thrilling Scottish Cup final, Peter Lovenkrands scored a last minute winner as Rangers won 3-2.

2011: El Hadji Diouf was an interesting addition to the Old Firm rivalry, given his previous history with Celtic. As a result, Celtic captain Scott Brown invented “The Broony” celebration in a 2-2 draw.

2011: That 2-2 draw led to the so-called “shame game” fifth round replay of the Scottish Cup which saw the infamous confrontation between Celtic boss Neil Lennon and Rangers assistant Ally McCoist. El Hadji Diouf also remonstrated with Lennon during the match and was one of the three Rangers players to receive red cards in a fiery match.

2012: Celtic had the chance to win the league title at Ibrox in March, but a 3-2 victory for the home side put paid to that. Lee Wallace, who will captain Rangers in tomorrow’s cup tie, scored the Gers’ third.

2015: Goals from Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons saw Celtic coast to a 2-0 victory in the League Cup semi-final against a struggling Rangers side. It was the first meeting between the two rivals since Rangers dropped down into the Third Division.
