Rangers star Michael O’Halloran welcomes the competition as Joe Dodoo looks set to sign

MICHAEL O’HALLORAN says Rangers’ pursuit of Joe Dodoo is great news – even though it could seriously reduce his chances of getting a game.

Leicester City striker Dodoo, 21, has rejected the offer of a new deal from the English Premier League champions and spoken of his desire to instead join the Light Blues.

And after seeing him close up in training last week, former Scotland U21 forward O’Halloran hopes the club could be on the verge of another piece of smart recruitment to set alongside the earlier capture of Joey Barton.

“It is definitely impressive that we are talking in terms of picking a player up from Leicester,” he said.

“All the boys the manager has brought in over the summer have been top class and, while I don’t know anything about the ins and outs of this one, he would be another example.

“As a player, this is what you want. There is a lot of competition for places in the group now and the training has been good.

“We have a good mix of youth and experience including some boys who have played at the highest level in England.”

Brought in from St Johnstone at the end of the winter transfer window, the 25-year-old found his first-team opportunities restricted at Ibrox last season.

This season, he hopes, will be different.

“It was a big move for me and like any new job you take time to settle in,” he said.

“I had to get to know everybody and they had to take time to get to know me so it was all a bit stop-start.

“Not only as a footballer but as a person as well and I think being away in America in the
pre-season has done me the world of good.

“This year I want to play in as many games as I can and I will be going in and working to prove to the manager I am worthy of a jersey.

“My aim, certainly, is to play in every game.”
