MUSIC lovers donned their leg-warmers and fancy dress outfits yesterday to roll back the years at the Rewind Festival.

The costumes were out in force at the ’80s-themed event – held at Scone Palace in Perthshire – from Dennis The Menace to The Flintsones.

As stars like Marc Almond, Leo Sayer, Go West and Average White Band took to the stage, a sea of neon shook their deely boppers.

Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley, who relaxed with a glass of wine after his performance, said: “The Scots crowd at Rewind just know how to give you a great reception right from the start.”

Among the fun seekers were Amanda Gordon and Debbie Smith, from Nairn, looking glorious in pink tutus.

The ladies, who said they were “over 21”, loved watching Tony.

Amanda said: “ He’s a sex bomb – it’s the whole ’80s thing!”

Debbie added: “He’s got it. I think I’ve got a bit of Olivia Newton John going on too. It’s all our era and music here and it’s really friendly.”

Alex Matthew, 45, who was dressed as the marshmallow man from Ghostbusters, and his pals David Bain, aka Hot Rod, and Rhea Hussey, a My Little Pony, lapped up Leo Sayer.

Alex said: “This is my third year and I love the atmosphere.”

David, 40, from Auchtermuchty, added: “This is my second year and the beer tent is great along with the music and atmosphere.

“We are really looking forward to Adam Ant.”

Rhea, 35 added: “It’s always awesome. I go to other festivals but this is so relaxed and laid back.”

Sheana Given also raved about the festival despite slipping up as she bopped around as Hi De Hi’s Gladys Pugh.

She said: “I have a weekend pass for this and I just love the music, the drink and the dancing.”

There were even a few special guests in the audience including Taggart’s Colin McCredie and Trainspotting star Robert Carlyle.

The festival continues today with Adam Ant, ABC, Big Country, Midge Ure, Toyah and more.
