More than 25,000 fans flock to see their idols at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
One Direction fever hit Glasgow yesterday at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
Thousands of 1D fans flocked to Glasgow Green as the boy band opened Europe’s biggest free festival.
All 50,000 tickets 25,000 a day had been snapped up in half an hour.
Screaming girls swooned as Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson rattled through their biggest hits in just 30 minutes.
What Makes You Beautiful, Little Things, Story Of My Life and Kiss You were among the storming crowd-pleasers with Best Song Ever rounding off the set.
Most of the fab five got cheers for stripping off to T-shirts and vests, but the chilly weather saw Harry sticking to his baggy sweatshirt to the girls’ disappointment.
Before taking to the stage Harry said the band, now worth a staggering £70 million, were “very lucky” to have the support of their Scots fans.
Mad-keen Adele McKenzie, 33, from Glasgow, was one of those going 1D crazy.
“I absolutely love them,” said Adele, who was with equally keen three-year-old daughter Mai. “They were fab, especially Zayn and Harry.”
Another of those lapping up their music was Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.
The 17-year-old actress from Bristol, who plays Arya Stark in the global smash-hit, revealed she had travelled north especially.
And Lily Allen caught up with Harry for a selfie. The 29-year-old singer hot-footed it to Glasgow after her Friday gig in Aberdeen.
Meanwhile Ed Sheeran’s set was a stormer, with current hit Sing the highlight. Scots fans were thrilled when Dumfries-born Calvin Harris took to the stage.
The 30-year-old had the crowd in a frenzy with hit Summer. Girlfriend Rita Ora revealed this week trying to keep a long distance relationship made her “pretty sad”.
But the pair have had time to catch-up in Glasgow as she’s on the bill for tomorrow. Coldplay brought proceedings to a rousing finale.
Tonight’s headliner is Katy Perry, with Kings of Leon and Tinie Tempah also on the bill. Scots interest will come from Paolo Nutini who has admitted the gig will be his biggest test since his current chart return.
