Fallen football ace Garry O’Connor faces the red card from his new council home for failing to tell housing chiefs he was staying there.
The 31-year-old has been living in a North Berwick
three-bedroom home with partner Lisa and their three kids.
It is understood the family have fallen foul of council chiefs by not telling them the former Scotland hitman would be living in the home too.
Council insiders say the application for the £65-a-week home only had his partner Lisa Greenwood’s name on it.
It is believed the claim is now being “reconsidered” after it came to light O’Connor, who once earned £16,000 a week, was living there.
We exclusively revealed last week how the internationalist, capped 16 times by Scotland, had gone from owning a host of palatial properties to living in a modest council house.
He had previously lived in a £1.3m five-bedroom mansion on East Lothian’s exclusive Archerfield Estate and drove a Ferrari, just miles from where he now lives on a council estate.
Some locals were furious the ex-Hibs player who is currently without a club after being released by third-tier Greenock Morton at the end of last season after their chairman blasted him as being “hopeless and unfit” had netted a home in the new street ahead of North Berwick families.
The first tenants moved into the estate at the end of March.
It is not known when the family moved into the house.
Law View, close to the iconic North Berwick Law, has already been short-listed for national awards.
Council housing in East Lothian is highly prized and is decided on a points basis with more points given if you are single parent, homeless or have recently left a relationship.
According to the East Lothian’s advice to prospective tenants: “All the information you supply will be checked and verified.
“This includes previous addresses and current housing circumstances. If false or misleading information is provided, the council will take appropriate action to cancel or suspend your application.”
O’Connor’s partner Lisa is furious the family’s new living arrangements have hit the headlines.
She blasted: “I’m now at risk of me and my three children losing their home and being made homeless because of this.”
A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council said they would not comment on their tenants.
