Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has to work hard to play the bad guy.
The dark and dangerous side of Emmerdale’s Adam Barton comes to the fore in potentially lethal fashion this week. He’s got a gun and seems intent on using it after a devastating discovery.
But Adam Thomas, who plays the disturbed youngster, has told how being a screen Mr Nasty doesn’t come naturally.
“I just find it hard to play such a bad guy,” confides 26-year-old Adam.
“I’m always the one having a laugh on set. So I have to reel it in a little bit just to get into the mood. But it’s been good and I hope I’m doing it justice.”
Adam’s screen namesake is the son of Moira, played by Scots actress Natalie J. Robb.
She recently wed bad boy Cain (Jeff Hordley) after being left widowed by the death of husband John a couple of years back.
But this week sees the stunning revelation that it’s recent village arrival James, ex-Corrie star Bill Ward, that’s actually his dad. It comes as an old video tape is being played on one of James’s son’s birthdays.
“It’s all happy stuff at first, then we hear James and his wife arguing and her shout about him having slept with Moira,” explains Adam.
“After that Adam finds James is actually his dad. He’s in utter disbelief.”
Shattered, he borrows a shotgun from the Dingles and a shot is then heard in the woods.
“Ever since James turned up his life has been hell,” adds Adam, who’s set to become a dad with dancer girlfriend Caroline Daly. He’s got the shotgun and he just wants to get James and teach him a lesson, take his anger out.”
