CORRIE star Mikey North says he’s thrilled Gary’s stopping being a “goody two shoes”.
“He’s going to be donning his bad boy cap again and it’s nice to be revisiting that,” Mikey told The Sunday Post.
“People have been telling me recently, ‘We used to hate Gary but now we like him’.
“He used to wind people up so you always got a bit of stick in the streets.
“To be honest I’d choose being a bad boy every time. That’s a lot more interesting than playing the good guy.
“You can do things that you wouldn’t be able to in real life.
“It makes it a lot more interesting to come into work.
“When he first came in he was a real bad boy but then the army calmed him down.
“Being able to tap back into the bad side’s great.”
That bad side is rearing its head due to Gary’s growing feelings over Michelle Keegan’s Tina.
She’s surrogate mum to Gary and Izzy’s baby but he’s starting to form a closer than intended bond.
This week will see things develop after Friday’s two episodes which saw Gary stay over at Tina’s for reassurance after her flat was broken into and ransacked.
“There are feelings starting to develop and she’s saying things that Gary’s probably taking the wrong way,” said Mikey.
“She’s thinking there might be more than there actually is but will Gary be tempted and be bad again?”
Mikey says he’s relishing more screen time with old pal Michelle.
“When I first came into the show five years ago I was a rival to David Platt when he was going out with Tina,” recalls Scarborough-born Mikey.
“We haven’t done a lot together over the years so it’s really nice that we’ve started working together again.
“She’s great to work with and the first thing my mates always say is that you can hardly call it work going in to be with Michelle.
“It always makes me laugh and I wind them up by telling them that she’s actually really rough and they ought to see her in the morning!”
Corrie’s been on a real high of late, including the burning down of the Rovers by former Taggart star John Michie’s Karl.
“So many people have been coming up to me to tell me how much they loved that,” adds Mikey.
“Corrie does those big stunts really well and it was like a throwback to the tram crash.
“John and I have become really good mates since he joined the show. He’s a great guy and we spend a lot of time together.”
