Crash and Corrie.
The New Year gets off to a devastating start in Corrie as a road crash leaves show favourites fighting for their lives.
A Street Cars minibus taking Underworld employees on a work outing will smash in spectacular fashion.
It’s driven by Steve McDonald who’s right at the heart of this week’s drama as his secret battle with depression continues. And Kym Marsh has revealed that her character Michelle will be heavily involved.
As Steve’s debts are uncovered tomorrow, the singer-turned-actress says the real reason for his actions is a mystery to Michelle.
“She has no idea how deep his problems run,” she confides.
“Michelle has no clue he’s got a mental health problem because obviously he hasn’t told her and in her eyes he’s just been pushing her further and further away. Michelle just thinks he doesn’t love her any more.
“The actual truth that he has depression is the furthest thing from her mind.”
Former Hear’Say star Kym, 38, has had her own brush with depression and has spoken of how it can be a taboo subject.
Kym says viewers have been telling her how pleased they are that it’s being featured in such a high profile storyline.
Just as Steve plucks up courage to give Michelle the bracelet he has bought her in the Hogmanay episode, he overhears something he’d rather not have.
“She tells Tony she’s moving on and that Steve’s her past,” explains Kym.
“She means it when she says it whether her heart wants to, or is ready to, is another story. She’s saying it to convince herself more than anyone else.
“In Michelle’s mind, Steve couldn’t make it any clearer that he doesn’t want her so she knows she has to move forward with her life.”
Things couldn’t be more different in reality for twice-married Kym.
She revealed that she has moved in with boyfriend Dan Hooper after a whirlwind romance.
“I’ve never been happier. I really feel like I’ve met the other half of me.”
And though things are looking bleak for Michelle and Steve, Kym says she’s been left in absolutely no doubt as to how viewers feel.
“The public definitely want them back together,” adds Kym.
“I’ve had people say that they’re heartbroken they’ve broken up. But I think they will come out of this the other side.”
