BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN put on another phenomenal Hampden show last night to kick off a summer packed with top artists coming to Glasgow.
Waitin’ On A Sunny Day was a suitable opener as the stadium basked in glorious sunshine for the latest leg in the star’s tour.
It also provided the first audience participation of the night as a young audience member picked out of the crowd was handed a mic to sing along.
Playing a selection of tracks from the classic 1980 album The River, The Boss had the audience captivated from the moment he stepped on stage with The E Street Band at around 6:45pm.
He rocked the national stadium for almost three and a half hours with his usual relentless energy – not bad for a 66-year-old.
Hungry Heart (a crowd request from a man who had it played at his wedding) and Patti Smith’s Because the Night (written by Springsteen) along with a whole host of classics showed off the talents of not only the frontman but E Street saxophonist Jake Clemons and guitarist “Little” Steven Van Zandt.

Awesome 3 1/2 hour set from @springsteen in sunny Glasgow last night. I was knackered at end – Bruce wasn't. pic.twitter.com/Wyk5QxoC6P

Rousing renditions of Thunder Road and Badlands would’ve been a great way to finish any show – but Springsteen being Springsteen, the best was yet to come.
The encore really got the crowd going, kicking off with Born in the USA and Born to Run back-to-back.

Two lucky ladies in the crowd were the envy of pretty much everyone in Hampden when they were brought on for a boogie with The Boss during Dancing in the Dark.
Then encore favourite Shout had the whole stadium moving as the show finished on a high.
That was it from “the heart stoppin’, house rockin’, earth quakin’” E Street Band, but Springsteen came back on for one final solo performance of This Hard Land.
From start to finish, it was an incredible show – hopefully The Boss will be back again soon.
