If you found that moment when it looked like the slippery snake Kaa was about to swallow Mowgli whole heart-stopping in your childhood, then prepare yourself for an even more sinister take in the latest trailer.
“Let go of your fear now and trusssssst in me,” Scarlett Johansson whispers in her hypnotic voice in the 60-second clip where Mowgli (Neel Sethi) meets the seductive serpent who promises to keep him safe while sizing him up to eat.
But she isn’t the only terrifying thing we meet in the action-packed trailer.
Idris Elba’s Shere Khan stalks Mowgli menacingly as he plots to rid the jungle of any human presence, while Christopher Walken’s unique tone adds a threatening air to King Louie’s offer of safety.
Also appearing in the movie are Sir Ben Kingsley as Bagheera and Bill Murray as Baloo.
Iron man director Jon Favreau takes the reins for the adaptation, which draws on both the 1967 film and Rudyard Kipling’s original stories from 1894.
The Jungle Book is out in cinemas on April 15.
