She was known for a particular hairstyle in Friends, but Jennifer Aniston is receiving the most favourable reviews of her career for letting her hair down in this emotional drama.
Jen turns her back on her usual comedic roles to play Claire Bennett, a woman in constant physical pain following a terrible car accident. With her body riddled with scars and hooked on her pain-killing medication, Claire has lost the desire to make anything of herself.
She becomes unhealthily obsessed with the suicide of a woman at her chronic-pain support group (played by Anna Kendrick), going as far as to take over the dead woman’s life by ingratiating herself with her husband (Avatar’s Sam Worthington) and young son.
Jen earned a Golden Globe nomination for her dowdy role but a lacklustre script makes Cake a bittersweet experience. Watch our review to find out why we think why.
