NOW, here’s one of these lovely looking cafes that’s long been on my list of scone specialists to try.
Not only did a fellow scone-loving reader tip me off, but I’d spotted it myself.
You see, Miss Daisy’s is in the picturesque Fife village of Falkland and I have been known to do quite a lot of walking round these parts.
You know I will never get tired of scones – they make our lives a little sweeter.
But eating scones for a living means I’m not as svelte as I once was.
In fact, there are times when I’m a bit of a chubster.
I keep telling myself to exercise more but getting hot and sweaty is all just so tedious when I could be lolling in cafes and seeing friends and family, instead.
I know you probably feel the same way.
However, I do like a stroll in the countryside. And the Falkland estate is lovely, full of woodland and waterfall walks.
And when I finally make it to Miss Daisy’s after passing it on many an occasion, I kick myself for not visiting sooner.
It’s a lovely wee place, with the cafe attached to a gift shop, selling everything from shoes to mugs.
I’ve finally made a point of coming here because this Friday coming is National Cream Tea Day.
And that means I’ve made an extra effort to check out cream teas on your behalf.
And this is definitely one of the finest you’ll find.
I’m with my sister today and we debate for a moment whether or not to share one cream tea between us.
And then we laugh heartily at such an idea! Of course we order one each.
At £6.95 for a cream tea that includes tea or coffee, three mini cakes and a big beast of a scone – cherry for me and fruit for sis – why wouldn’t you?
There are a man and woman sitting nearby enjoying a healthy bowl of soup but when our delicious-looking cakes and scones arrive, the man just can’t help himself.
He turns to us and says, half-admiringly, half-longingly: “Oh for goodness’ sake!”
I know your game, matey. And no, you’re not getting a bit of my meringue.
There are no sandwiches included in our cream tea, of course.
That would be an afternoon tea. And sometimes they’re just a bit of a bore and you want to head straight to the main event of cakes and scones.
The cream tea here is almost perfect. A wee bit more cream would have been nice – maybe our lovely waitress heard me moaning about my midriff?
The tearoom itself is a gorgeous, with spotless white tablecloths. But I’m so busy blethering I manage to splodge some home-made jam across ours. But when Soup Man and his wife leave, the tablecloth is swiftly replaced with a clean, ironed replacement.
It’s little details like that that make all the difference.
