Gabby Logan hopes to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions this summer
The popular presenter is one of the main faces of the BBC’s World Cup coverage that starts this week. And she’ll barely be back from Brazil before she heads to Glasgow for next month’s Commonwealth Games.
“It’s a massive headache for the whole summer,” Gabby told The Sunday Post.
“I’ve got a World Cup in one city where it’s going to be 39C with 99% humidity and another city where I’m told it can be 15C and pouring.
“And then in Glasgow the athletics are outdoors. So with being on telly every day I’ve had to plan ahead. One of our spare rooms has been taken over for the summer of sports outfits.”
While the eyes of footie fans will be on the action on the pitch, Gabby is all too aware that she’ll be under scrutiny, too.
She says she’s had viewers getting in touch commenting on the number of times she’s worn particular shoes and outfits.
“People do criticise but viewers are paying a licence fee, it’s not a commercial station, so we don’t have a budget,” reveals Gabby.
“We have to shop sensibly. One of my friends is a stylist and about twice a year we’ll go and do a massive shop.
“I’ve done enough of these tournaments to know I’m not going to need stilettos, which aren’t practical running round a football pitch.
“But I do believe that people watching telly have the right to see someone who has taken a bit of time getting ready. It’s important to brush up a bit.”
Gabby will be out and about with the England team during the tournament, with the BBC’s big name line-up headed up by Gary Lineker.
It’s a virtually all-male cast. And although Gabby says that with so many ex-pros she totally understands why, she admits she does start to pine for some girlie gossip.
What she’ll also be pining for are twins Reuben and Lois, who’ll be staying at home with former Scots rugby legend Kenny.
“They can’t come to Brazil but they’ll all be in Glasgow with me for the Commonwealth Games,” adds Gabby.
“I think Glasgow can get so much out of it and show how beautiful it is.
“You travel 10 miles out of the city and it’s the most iconic, beautiful scenery in the world. I really have to pinch myself that I get to be involved in such big events and tournaments.”
