One Direction and Take That likely to feature on new version of Do They Know It’s Christmas.
Pop star Midge Ure has confirmed the music for a new Band Aid single has been composed.
The singer said a new version of Do They Know It’s Christmas? is in the pipeline. It is likely to feature stars such as One Direction and members of Take That.
Money from sales of the single are being tipped to go towards helping Ebola victims.
Midge, 61, and former Boomtown Rats member Bob Geldof, 63, were the driving force behind the original track, which became a number one hit back in 1984. It featured some of the biggest stars of the day, including Boy George, Paul Weller and Wham. It was re-recorded in 1989 and 2004 to mark its 20th anniversary.
This week former Ultravox frontman Midge confirmed he has recorded the backing track for the new version.
His revelation follows days of speculation about a new single.
Speaking to our us following a gig at Paisley Town Hall a fortnight ago he said: “I recorded it last week.”
The first Band Aid single made pop history and helped save the lives of famine victims in Ethiopia by raising around £8 million for charity projects.
It’s hoped the new version will prove even more popular and raise millions for people living in Ebola-ravaged countries in West Africa.
So far a UK Ebola appeal has raised more than £17m.
Other stars expected to feature include Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini, Robbie Williams and Olly Murs.Read the full interview with Midge Ure and Sir Bob Geldof here
