Ginger-haired family pet Murdo was picked from dozens of other cute hopefuls when the singing duo needed yelp filming their new promo.
Adorable two-year-old Cockapoo Murdo was picked from more than 40 pets after a Facebook appeal by the pop stars’ management.
Owner Heather Stewart, 44, from Haddington, East Lothian, said of his acting debut: “He was a complete natural.
“But I was stunned he was chosen because I thought some of the other dogs were very cute.”
The mum-of-two said she loves her “gorgeous” acting pet but only got him by chance.
“I had picked another pup from the litter but when we arrived to collect him, tiny Murdo leapt forward and straight into my arms.
“After licking my ears he fell asleep and I couldn’t put him down.”
The canine star appears in the latest Proclaimers’ video, You Built Me Up. It’s the first single from their new album, Let’s Hear It For The Dogs.
Video director Colin Usher, also from Haddington, said: “It was challenging working with a dog. We only had half an hour to get shots of him before he got bored. But we captured some lovely snippets of filming we were able to work in.
“It was quite funny watching Craig and Charlie perform with Murdo running around.”
All the filming was shot at Edinburgh’s DoubleTree Hotel with stunning views overlooking the castle.
It has been a huge hit with showings on primetime telly.
Heather’s children Samuel, 12, and Stella, nine, are thrilled with Murdo’s newfound fame but he doesn’t live the film star life at the family home.
“My husband Malcolm and I had to clean him up a bit for his film debut,” said Heather.
“He’s far from posh and charms folk by wanting to leap all over them.”
