Grant Stott My Favourite Holiday

“Cruise away the stress and holiday hassle.”

Grant Stott is one of Scotland’s best known presenters. He has fronted a number of TV shows and has been a long-time favourite on Radio Forth, which he joined back in 1990. He currently hosts the 10am to 2pm show on the station.

Grant is also a panto regular and is starring as Abanazar in Aladdin at the King’s Theatre Edinburgh, until Sunday January 18, 2015. For tickets call 0131 529 6000 or visit the website at edtheatres.com“This summer I took the family on a Western Mediterranean Cruise with Celebrity Cruises and would easily do it again.

I have two teenage children, Lori our 13-year-old daughter and Sam our 17-year-old son, who loved the holidays just as much as the one we took to Florida two years ago. In fact, we’ve been on three cruises as it’s generally the only option all four of us agree on.

I’ve found that when I mention the word “cruise”, many people react with a surprised wide-eyed: “A cruise? But you’re not a pensioner”.

And this still seems to be the image of such holidays but my experiences have been far from a fortnight with some OAPs.

People of all ages cruise these days and I’ve never found myself stuck in any particular company while on board. We’ve visited a number of stunning cities and islands without the stress and hassle of travelling between each one.

We’re there long enough for the kids not get bored and then back on a floating 5-star hotel which provides as much top-notch food, drink, relaxation and entertainment as we want.

And, most importantly, freedom for the kids to go off with their new-found friends to do what they want, leaving us with the peace of mind that they are safe and have plenty to keep them entertained.

We’ve discovered Pisa, Rome, Santorini, Pompeii, Barcelona, Rhodes, Kusadasi and Monaco amongst so many other places that we probably wouldn’t have visited otherwise.

Santorini in Greece was a particular highlight, so much so that we opted for the third cruise simply because it meant a second visit there.

There are so many cruise options available these days and my best advice is to spend as much as you can afford to.

Try not to go too cheap as you often get what you pay for (I suppose that goes for any holiday these days).

Because this is my only real break of the year, I want it to be as good as it can be.

By all means try and get the best deal with regards to drinks packages and gratuities etc, but if you can book a high-end ship, the service, surroundings and experience usually reflects this.”
