The Magnets star Nic Doodson can’t help but sing Edinburgh’s praises.
Appearing at the city’s Festival Fringe has made the six-piece A cappella group a hit round the world and brought love along the way.
“I’ve actually just popped the question to my girlfriend Alice in Edinburgh,” Nic told The Sunday Post.
“She was working at one of the venues we played back in 2005 and we started going out when she moved to London.
“Probably everybody has been thinking it’s about time we got married, so I decided to ask her when we came back for a visit recently.
“I did it at Arthur’s Seat.
“Alice didn’t have a clue what I was going to do but thankfully she said yes.
“Edinburgh has such a special connection for us all it just had to be there.
“As a direct result of playing there we’ve been to Zimbabwe, Poland, New Zealand, Australia and Israel.”
They’ve also played some unusual venues over the years, from a salt mine in Salzburg to a mountain top near Munich where their kit was taken up by cable car.
A new album featuring original material as well as their take on songs by Dire Straits, Sting, Brian May and Peter Gabriel is just out.
“We’re looking forward to doing the new stuff in Edinburgh,” adds Nic.
The Magnets are at Underbelly from August 1.
