Sharon Corr knows there is a lot of money to be made in a Corrs reunion, but it’s not on the agenda.
Sharon and her three siblings became one of the biggest bands in the world with their blend of pop and traditional Irish music.
They decided to part professionally in 2006 after 15 years, with some like Sharon going on to forge solo careers while others chose to enjoy life away from the limelight.
“Plenty of people have hopes for that money train to roll in, but we have no plans,” Sharon said.
“It would have to feel completely right. If we ever did it, and I don’t know if we will, it would have to be a particular moment in time. It wouldn’t be a long tour, just something short and sweet.”
The band sold millions around the world and is only the second act in UK history after The Beatles to have albums at the numbers one and two spots in the charts.
Despite having had two kids since The Corrs ended, Sharon has continued to be musically prolific. On Monday, she releases new single, Take A Minute, ahead of her second album coming out in September.
Making the transition from writing for her sister Andrea, who was The Corrs’ lead vocalist, to writing for herself took some time.
Sharon continued: “I was so used to writing for my sister that it took a while for me to write something suitable for my voice. I never thought I wouldn’t continue to pursue a music career without the band, so I carried on writing.
“Being up on stage as a solo performer felt very natural, but it did take me a little while to go from right of stage to centre stage.
“As violinist in The Corrs, I had learned to restrain myself, but as a solo act you have to completely let go.”
Despite having two young children, Sharon says that writing songs still comes easily to her.
“I write in chaos kids screaming, lunches to make, just all the normal family stuff. I like sitting at the piano and just allowing an idea to form.”
Sharon isn’t enamoured with today’s chart music.
“Apart from people like Paolo Nutini and Adele, the top of the charts is just one same song after another. It’s like an assault.”
