Katrina Leskanich answers our Quick Questions.
Eurovision is next Saturday. Are you happy being Britain’s last winner?
I’d like to feel a bit better about it, but we don’t take it as seriously as some other countries. Our acts don’t have much chance, do they?
Did winning Eurovision enhance your career?
It was an irresistible opportunity for Katrina & The Waves who were looking for a comeback. Love Shine A Light went higher in the charts in the UK than Walking On Sunshine.
Dolly Parton or Celine Dion?
Dolly did a great cover of Walking On Sunshine and used it as the opening song on her live tours fiddles and all.
Will you always be remembered for Walking On Sunshine?
Sure, but I’m happy with that. It’s been on TV, in movies, everywhere. Plenty of people don’t get remembered for anything do they?
How many times have you sung it?
Probably over five thousand times and it’s always a joy me and that song have been through a lot.
Do you prefer to work in America or the UK?
That’s a tough one. I take every opportunity to work. Currently I’m performing my new album, Blisland around the world.
Which country loves your music most?
Right now, I hope it’s the UK.
Could Katrina And The Waves ever get back together?
I don’t think so. With each year it gets less and less likely.
Could you live off the royalties from The Waves’ hits?
I make as much from Walking On Sunshine as any other singer who sings a song they didn’t write.
You have 24 hours left to live. How do you spend the time?
I’m not big on sentiment. I’d try to live as mindfully as possible and if that didn’t work then I’d crack open a bottle of champagne or three!
Katrina’s album, Blisland, is out now.
