YOU’VE been watching television the wrong way your whole life, according to new research from Currys PC World, which reveals there’s a science to getting the best viewing experience.
Maths expert Hongsheng Dai has created a mathematical formula to find the perfect spot to watch TV, and just in time for Euro 2016.
According to the findings, viewers should sit 1.6 times the screen size away from the TV. So, if you’re watching on a 44in screen, you should sit 70.4in away.
The findings also highlight that viewers should sit straight in front of the middle point of the screen for the best viewing experience.
But it’s not just about the distance from the TV – even something as specific as the angle can make a difference. The optimum angle is 30 degrees from the centre of the TV.
When it comes to the height, viewers should be level with the middle of the screen.
Commenting on some of the considerations which were taken into account in the development of the formula, University of Essex lecturer Hongsheng Dai said: “For lower resolution TVs and bigger screens, viewers should consider altering the formula from 1.6 to 2.5 to ensure a perfect viewing experience.”
