BMW has released an exclusive one-off version on its M850i Coupe – the Night Sky.
Created by the company’s Individual Manufaktur customisation facility in Garching, Germany, the M850i Coupe Night Sky actually features meteor fragments in elements of its interior.
The reveal has been timed to coincide with an intense meteor shower set to take place on 3-4 January.
The rock elements have been fitted to the centre console’s trim piece, the engine start/stop button and the automatic transmission selector too. Meteor fragments also feature on the touch controller for the iDrive infotainment system.
Lights have been studded into the centre armrest to replicate the look of stars, while the whole cabin has been given a three-tone colour scheme.
The special pattern inside a meteor’s structure– known as Widmanstätten – has also been applied to the car’s headliner, and even milled into the surface of the brake discs.
The brake calipers were created using 3D printing methods, making them exceptionally light – 30 per cent lighter, in fact, than those made using traditional methods.
A unique colour scheme has been applied to the car’s exterior too, with four layers of paint combining to give the car a deep, shimmering finish akin to – incidentally – the night sky.
The Night Sky is based on the regular M850i xDrive Coupe, which means you get a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine under the bonnet, sending 523bhp and 750Nm to all four wheels.
No price has been revealed for the Night Sky, though it’s likely to exceed the £99,525 cost of the standard M850i xDrive.
