A new lease of life has been given to the Nissan Micra, with two new engines and a racier trim level joining the range.
Both new petrol power units are turbocharged with a 1.0-litre capacity. First up is a 99bhp variant, replacing the previous mid-range 0.9-litre, 89bhp option. It drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox or a Continuable Variable Transmission (CVT).
A 0-60mph of 10.9 seconds is stated for this engine, with Nissan also claiming it can return 50.4mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 103-105g/km of CO2 depending on the car’s specification.
Building on that is a 115bhp engine, which is said to be based on different architecture despite the identical capacity to the lower-powered unit. Power is sent to the car’s front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. It can take the Micra from 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds while returning a claimed 47.9mpg and emitting 114g/km of CO2.
N-Sport is a new offering in trim grades — aiming to bring the Micra into the ‘warm hatch’ category alongside the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST-Line, VW Polo R-Line and Seat Ibiza FR.
A racier look is brought to this particular specification via a carbon-style finish on the alloy wheels and mirror caps, gloss black highlights on both bumpers, rear privacy glass and N-Sport badging on the back of the car.
Inside the Micra N-Sport, Alcantara and leather combination seats feature alongside ‘sports-design’ floor mats, white air vents and a black headliner. Technology highlights include a rear-view camera with parking sensors, plus keyless start.
The revised Nissan Micra range is now available, with prices for the hatch starting at £12,875.
