IF you’ve been enjoying the sunshine in Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens this week you may have noticed that Oor Wullie has paid a visit!
The nation’s favourite rascal is in town on the latest leg of the Bucket Trail tour of Scotland.
Eleven of the uniquely decorated Wullie statues are on display around the Kibble Palace until Sunday.
There’s also Wullie the Cowboy in Glasgow Central Station.
Trail organiser Neil Cooney said: “It’s a Dundee campaign but we’re dealing with a national treasure in Oor Wullie.
“He’s recognised across Scotland and the tour is helping to raise awareness of The Archie Foundation and all of our wonderful sponsors as it wouldn’t be happening without them.”
As well as promoting the charity, it is hoped that the tour will encourage people to visit the full trail in Dundee.
The statues have proved extremely popular on Tayside, and it’s not just locals who want to find them all.
“When we announced it we were inundated by people up in Aberdeen looking to come down,” explains Neil.
“Our Dolphin trail up there a couple of years ago really captured their imagination.
“That was reflected in the visitor numbers when the Wullies visited – around 11,000 people came to see them.”
A rugby themed Wullie at Edinburgh’s Waverley Station and Glasgow Central’s cowboy promote trail sponsors ScotRail’s Kids Go Free initiative at the main departure points for Dundee.
The statues will visit a number of other locations across the country before being polished and prepared for auction.
The proceeds will be going to the Archie Foundation’s appeal for a new twin operating theatre paediatric surgical suite for Tayside Children’s Hospital.
