Casualty star reveals his toughest scene.
He’s witnessed the most horrific injuries and the aftermath of awful accidents. But as he bows out of Casualty in the aftermath of this week’s high drama, Alex Walkinshaw has told of his worst-ever moment.
“There’s one that leaps into my mind and there was no blood or bones sticking out,” confides Alex, who plays popular character Fletch.
“It was someone being sick. I’m OK with my kids and I’ve done all the dad stuff when they’re being ill. But we had an actor who had to be sick as a reaction to stuff he’d taken.
“The medical advisor was at the monitor and she said you could see the blood drain out of my face. I had to walk away because I was very close to joining the guy.”
Alex certainly isn’t calling time on his medical acting career just yet, as we’ll soon be seeing him on Holby City.
Although on screen it’s all part of the same hospital, Alex is swapping Cardiff filming for Casualty for London shooting with Holby.
It means being closer to his wife and two kids for Alex, who played Sgt. Dale Smith in The Bill.
“I’m going to miss everybody because they’re such a nice bunch of people. It’s sad because there’s a lot of banter and a lot of good humour.”
Having become a settled member of the Casualty cast, Alex says he and his character have a few adjustments to make.
“Fletch is here on Holby and it’s all new,” he adds. “He’s finding his feet but there are a couple of blasts from the past. I don’t really know what’s happening after that ask me in a few months!”
