Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee reveal what Valentine’s Day means to them and whether they think it’s magic!
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Yes. Paul is first up and he brings me champagne and toast with ‘I Love You’ carved in it. It’s the only time he cooks the whole year.
What’s the most romantic thing Paul’s ever done?
Lots. He’s really romantic. He once said: “I wish I’d never married you, because then I could marry you all over again.” He always surprises me.
What’s the most romantic thing Debbie’s ever done?
She leaves me little notes on my pillow whenever she’s going away.
How long did it take Cupid to fire his arrow after you met?
Ages. It took us nine years to get married. Paul thought I was too young and he kept saying: “Go find someone your own age.”
What are the pitfalls of working with your partner?
Debbie likes to rehearse over and over again, but I like to think more. Also, if we’re tired there’s a danger we can fall out. On the other hand, we share the driving.
What’s “your song”?
Either When I Fall In Love by Nat King Cole, or Zadok The Priest by Handel. That was playing during our wedding fireworks.
Who’s more likely to cry at a soppy film?
Definitely Paul. He even cries during TV ads.
Which fictitious figure attracts you?
As a young girl Debbie liked The Scarlett Pimpernel but, as a man, I’d go for the strip cartoon character Jane.
After 27 years of marriage, complete the sentence: “Love Is…”
“…Ever changing.” If you’re lucky you become the best of best friends.
You have 24 hours left to live. How do you spend the time?
Debbie would eat the day away in the south of France, but I would grab all the members of our family and have one group hug for the 24 hours.
