WITH the summer weather gradually making an appearance, it’s time to get down to the beach!
Scotland’s coastline has some stunning sandy shores perfect for a day lounging in the sun, paddling in the (hopefully not too chilly) sea or exploring the rocks.
No matter where you are in Scotland, you’re never more than 50 miles from the sea.
Here are some of the best beaches to visit this summer.

Just one of the amazing beaches in the Western Isles.
With white sand, clear blue lagoon-like water and views over to the isle of Taransay (setting of Castaway), it is simply breathtaking.
Silver Sands of Morar
Located near Mallaig, this string of gorgeous coastline is perfect for a leisurely stroll.
In the summer, the sand glows in the sunlight.

Miles of golden sand on the Highland coast.
If you fancy a swim, it has Seaside Award status as a clean bathing beach.
Lunan Bay, Angus
This secluded shore on the Angus coastline was once visited by Vikings.
Nowadays, it’s a lot more tranquil and is a great place for bird-watching!
Elie, Fife
The shore at Elie boasts a number of beaches.
On this lovely stretch of Fife coastine, you can explore the caves or give some watersports a try!
Seacliff, East Lothian

Well worth the £3 entry charge to pass the barrier to this little-known spot.
You can also explore the ruins of nearby Seacliff House and Auldhame Castle.
Loch Morlich
You wouldn’t normally associate the Cairngorms with beaches, but this sandy loch-side haven is right in the middle of the national park.
It’s equally suited for a walk on either a summer or winter day with stunning views of the mountains.
Tentsmuir

Head through the forest to find this gem on the Fife coast.
Popular with visitors- and grey seals in the summer!
Culzean, Ayrshire
On the shoreline next to Culzean Castle, Maybole.
It’s an ideal place to go wildlife spotting.
