A SCOTS road has been named the quietest in the UK.
A recent survey by car rental firm Avis revealed that the A897 in Sutherland sees little more than an average of one car a day.
With a record 31 million cars in the UK, our roads are ever more congested. That means, for most, nightmare commutes, frustrating shopping trips and too-stressful
leisure drives.
But there are still wonderfully peaceful stretches that show off the nation’s beauties to the very best.
Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “Scotland’s spectacular scenery and wealth of must-visit attractions and points of interest make it a driver’s paradise.
“Whether it’s taking in the lunar landscapes of Harris’s Golden Road, or basking in the beauty of the lochs and waterfalls on the A708, many of this country’s roads give visitors a magical motoring experience.”
We found some of Scotland’s heavenly highways – so if you want to be alone, grab your keys, roll down the window . . . and drive.
