Wilderness Scotland make the most of the country.
Whether you enjoy walking in the wild, skiing from the summits or simply photographing the country’s stunning scenery, Wilderness Scotland could be the perfect place to shop for that fun-filled holiday at home.
The specialist adventure travel company offers a mixture of breaks, incorporating a whole host of outdoor sports, from rambling and road cycling to canoeing and kayaking and everything inbetween.
And the best bit is that each and every one of these activities can be done right here in Scotland, in the most remote and beautiful regions of the Highlands and Islands.
Wilderness Scotland was set up in 2000 by student pals Neil Birnie and Paul Easto. The pair first met while on a golf scholarship at Dundee University. After graduating, they went on to work as a solicitor and surveyor respectively.
But a few years on, they realised being out in the wilderness of Scotland was the career of choice for them.
They drafted in Neil’s dad Gordon, a keen walker with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Highlands, its wildlife and marine life, and Wilderness Scotland was born.
Neil, Paul and Gordon shared a passion for activities, the outdoors and the aim of introducing others to the amazing wild regions Scotland has to offer.
They were joined three years later by former environmental policy advisor for the government Stevie Christie, who has trekked and travelled in Africa and throughout the Americas.
He initially joined as a guide, but is now a company director at the HQ, based aptly in the Cairngorms National Park.
Customers signing up for an adventure holiday with Wilderness Scotland can choose the activity they want to do, where and when they want to do it and whether they’re suited to an easy or a challenging level.
And for those who fancy trying more than one thing, there are multi-activity trips, as well as family breaks.
“We plan for everything, even the Scottish weather,” says Paul. “Even in the rain we guarantee you’ll have an amazing time.”
