Estelle Humber is in her mid-80s. An Aberdonian great-grandmother now living in the north of England, Estelle, who has been married to beloved hubby Gordon for more than 60 years, loves to party, enjoys foreign holidays, water aerobics and all sorts of fun. Here, she shares some of her favourite pics with us…
Anniversary toast
It was my 60th wedding anniversary recently. I met Gordon when I was nursing in Falkirk and Gordon was studying pharmacy in Edinburgh. We were married on September 2, 1958. It was a small affair, compared to the three days we spent celebrating the big anniversary. We had a big family meal, and two garden parties. Gordon has been my rock. He really is an amazing husband. I’m not sure there’s a secret of a happy marriage, probably just give and take, and putting up with each other!
Making a splash
This is me and my daughter Jaki enjoying the hot tub on a weekend away in Dumfries. We hired a cottage and went for a big family holiday. Gordon and I love holidays and try to go at least two or three a year. The Lake District is only about an hour away so we love going up regularly. It’s so close to home but one of my fave holiday spots.
Bard romance
This is myself and Gordon at a Burns Supper. I am Scottish, but moved to Lancashire a few years before we married. Gordon was coming down to work at his father’s pharmacy, so I came with him. I was raised in Cults, Aberdeenshire. I do miss Scotland so embrace any opportunity to dress up in a bit of tartan and dance to the sound of the bagpipes! Burns is an annual celebration for us – and it’s always nice to have an excuse to tuck into a bit of haggis.
Four generations
We have quite a big family – two children, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and we’re all spread around, so it’s lovely to have an occasion to get everyone together. This photo was taken at my granddaughter Clair’s son Henry’s Christening at St Michael’s Church in Kirkham. Family is so important to us.
