AMBER RUDD’S resignation as Home Secretary has been accepted by Theresa May.
She’d faced intense criticism and calls to quit following the Windrush scandal, as well as the emergence of information about official targets for removing illegal immigrants.
An internal Home Office memo was leaked suggesting she was informed of the targets – even though she previously told MPs she was unaware of them.
Ms Rudd claimed although her office had been copied in to the document, she did not see it herself.
And earlier today, The Guardian published a letter that showed she had personally set a target for an increase in the enforced deportation of immigrants.
Ms Rudd was due to face questions in Parliament tomorrow to explain her apparent misleading of the home affairs select committee last week, where she denied knowing about the targets.
